On March 15 2012 Bassel Khartabil, open source activist and one of my colleagues in the global Creative Commons affiliate network, was imprisoned in the Mazzed district in Damascus. Since then his family has not received any official statement explaining the detainment nor information about his whereabouts. That is why on Saturday, the 2nd anniversary of his disappearance, international open-source communities around the world are organizing FREE BASSEL DAY.
With activities all over the world thousands of supporters will create awareness about this illegal detainment and the unjust treatment of Bassel. Also here in Denmark we'll contribute: With Creative Commons Denmark we encourage everyone to take part in an online translation-sprint - a "translate-a-thon" - where among other we'll translate the official Bassel Khartabil Wikipedia page into Danish, as well as the pages for the open Internet projects that he dedicated himself to supporting.
More info on the Creative Commons Denmark website and the Open Knowledge Denmark website (both in Danish).
UPDATE MARCH 16 2014: Here is the new Danish Bassel Khartabil page.
